One Earth -- |

About Me Seems sorta vain to put one's own bio on the web -- waste of bandwidth and all that -- but just in case anyone wonders... I'm NOT a "pollyanna" -- not at all -- not after spending over half my 56 years in the depths of alcoholism and/or depression. This is the closest to a "personal homepage" as I'll ever come -- it's what I'd want to sit down and discuss with another intelligent human being -- about things that really matter -- about making a difference, starting with one's own lifewalk. I feel strongly that, as we change ourselves, we change the world. In the words of Garrison Keelor, "One person can't do it all -- but you gotta do what you can do!" The world IS in trouble -- BIG trouble. And no one of us CAN rectify it -- but we CAN each, in our own small way, make our 24 hours better today than it was before -- by what we think, by what we do for others, by how we care for ourselves, and by our choices -- by choosing to walk more lightly upon the Earth -- by making a decision to be positive in our own actions. and gentle with ourselves, with others, and with the Earth. Rather than "tell all" about me, my hobbies or interests, I choose to use this "personal" website to encourage others, NOT to do as I do, but to consider the consequences of their actions and to think about changes or paradigm shifts in their way of life that might reflect what are best termed "tribal values" for lack of a better term. I am of Choctaw descent, grew up among people who were almost ashamed of being "mixed bloods", and who preferred claiming their Scotch-Irish ancestors. Not me! I was the black sheep, throwback in the family -- the "heathen" child and proud of it! After almost 30 years in the white man's world, I began finding myself drawn back "home" -- the drum called, and I came -- and found myself. I began doing what I wanted to do, and being who I wanted to be. That included becoming a prize-winning pow-wow dancer, spending a LOT of time in a sweatlodge, running an herb shop for a while, moving to an old, run-down l920's build ranch house on the northern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, learning how to milk a goat and make kefir, build webpages, and live VERY low on the food chain! I work with a non-profit organization, the Trans-Pecos Renewal Center, which will build a retreat center here, soon, and telecommute to Dallas as a freelance writer. Along with a mess of manx cats, my responsibilities include caring for a handicapped daughter, challenged with Prader-Willi Syndrome and I run a site for menopausal women. THIS is my "favorite" site -- in that I get to sound off here, no holds barred. With a masters degree in environmental health sciences, and enough time spent in law school to get pretty dangerous, I full well realize that the apparent "problems" facing civilization in the new millennium are awesome. But, I got tired of all the "bad" news, all the stuff about newer, more virulent plagues coming to get us, weather and mental manipulation by HAARP, conspiracy theories taking out a pregnant Princess Di and ruling the world from behind the scenes and the seeming madness of nuclear (waste) proliferation. SOOooo, I decided to do something positive with MY little home on the web. This site will NEVER be as popular as the ones promoting hatred -- because it promotes happiness -- it will never be as well trafficked as the ones showing smut, because the only graphics are Indian designs. But, for those who do surf by, they will get a dose of encouragement and hope -- good medicine for the soul.
Ah, vanity, thy name must be Avalon -- just couldn't resist
